Second Baptist School General Overview

The goal of this “Industry Insights” blog is to keep our readers up to date on what is going on within the wide ranging visual media industry. This will include thoughts on articles and ideas spreading throughout the industry, client successes, creative uses of commercial video and photography and glimpses into new technologies.

This week I wanted to discuss an article I found of particular interest regarding the growth of online video. Cisco released its annual Visual Networking Index this week which is forecasting that global IP traffic will increase 4.3 times though 2014 and that video will be the primary driver, accounting for 91% of traffic by 2014. By 2014, it would take 72 million years to watch all the video crossing the network that year.

So what does this mean? A few things actually, obviously there is a greater need or demand for video online and that need is quickly being met. Also, with the proliferation of broadband internet there is a much wider audience able to view online video today than ever before and it is projected to continue to grow to 1 billion viewers by 2014. Many businesses are taking advantage of video within their ongoing marketing campaigns to do everything from provide targeted, concise messages to their audiences, to viral campaigns and enhancing their SEO.
